Pirates win 7th straight KeysNews.com

TAVERNIER -- The Bone Island Pirates improved its win streak to seven straight games on Saturday night with a 28-6 victory over Keys rival the South Florida Sharks. Playing on the Coral Shores High campus the Pirates got out to an early lead and never relinquished, keeping control of the Southeast Florida League's Southeast Division.

"They added some beef and some speed," Pirates owner/coach Angel Torres said about the Sharks (2-6). "We still controlled the game, but there was a bit of a difference. Either way it was our game until the fourth quarter when we allowed them to score."

+40 Baseball league started its 2nd season

KEY WEST - The second season of the Jewfish League got underway last Friday night with the same match-ups as the inaugural season opener, but with outrageously different results.

The fellers in blue, the Jaibas, who ended the first season in near the bottom of the heap, third place, gaffed the (red) Snappers, 25-13, who recently swam away with the first place hardware in season one.

The Jaibas jumped out to a quick - in over-40 softball means snail's pace - three-run lead thanks to John "Ghostface Killah" Baltzell who delivered a three-run egg roll into Tong's Garden parking lot.

The Snappers crushed that lead - with their dentures - putting up eight runs as every player in red registered a hit in the bottom of the first. The blue bellies scratched and crawled out seven in their next at bat, and would not relinquish the lead again.
