Youth club partners with city on sports
Perhaps it is time for our City Fathers to look northwards a few miles to hopefully get some ideas what to do with the fields we don't have anymore.

With H.O.B. soon starting the "renovation" half of the field will be gone - once again the AYSO is in dire straits for a field. These Band Aid solutions of the past have gotten us nowhere and by just hoping and wishing there will be a timely solution just proves the ignorance and carelessness towards this problem.

Coach Scott Paul of the Lady Conchs just informed me about how their first round game went vs. Miami Jackson! The Game was over 3 minutes after the start of the seccond half as the Lady Conchs just got another "Mercy Rule" victory, 8:0!

Let's welcome them back and wish the team and their 'nervous' Coach all the best for the upcoming games.

Not quite sure how many actually follow the Women's European Cup, but I certainly enjoy it.
This match appears to have more signifance than the World Cup Qualifiers of the Men's teams the day before, as many of the teams expected to go through will make it in my humble opinion.

Although only Holland, or Netherland if you prefer, have clinched their spot for next years World Cup in South Africa.

Back to the Women's Final on Thursday.

Miami's Soccer Locker team to visit Key West!

AC Key West's Boca Seniors team is hosting their annual friendly vs. the Soccer Locker of Miami on Saturday, July 25.
These games were revived in May of last year after most of the players had just about enough of soccer on our Island. A celebration though of one of the Founding Fathers' birthday brought the oldtimers back together and they soon realized how much more fun it is to be playing again instead of just watching the Premier League or the Bundesliga on TV.
Kick-Off will be at 6 p.m. at the H.O.B. Soccer Field. Both teams will be gathering to a banquet as this tradition from the early days of the "friendly Rivalry" was kept up through Michael Andersen, team captain and sponsor of the Key West Club.
The public is invited to join the 2 teams, NO Admission.
To attend the Banquet an invite is required and a $20.- cover charge is necessary to cover the cost of the event. Hope to see you at the field. A meeting will be held at SHANNA KEY on Wednesday, July 22, at 8 p.m. after the weekly scrimmage game.

Key West monthly Cruise ship game!

Today at 1:30 the adult soccer team is playing their 3rd. match against the visiting Cruise Ship Disney Magic. While the local team lost their first game by a score of 1-0, the local guys came up with a big victory and a score of 5-1. Today's game starts at 1:39 p.m. at H.O.B. Field.

The much anticipated tournament had to be reschudeled due to organizational problems!
Still, the new league will be formatted as soon as the rules and bylaws have been published.

Sorry - but it needs more than one person to take on such an endeavour.
Team captains should be more helpful and at least submit their roster when due.

AC Key West beats Cruise Ship

The local soccer team AC Key West played their monthly match against one of the visiting Disney Magic cruiseships and got revenge for their previous 1-0 loss with a convincing 5-1 victory.
The team had a little cook-out after the game at one of the players house to talk about future plans about the club.

BTW, there are more players needed for the over 40 teams to be formed in the near future!

MIAMI -- It was a banner year for the Coral Shores girls' soccer team, but unfortunately it came to an end Tuesday night in Region 4-3A semifinal game as Gulliver Prep handed the Lady Canes a 2-1 loss.
After a scoreless first half, the Lady Raiders built a 2-0 lead with 20 minutes remaining in the match, but the Canes would not be denied.
Jasmine Paterson, who was double and triple-teamed all game, managed to break free to head in a goal off a Julia Hatfield assist with 10 minutes remaining on the clock.
First year Coach Arthur Paterson was extremely proud of his team and looks forward to the future with his talented squad of returning players.
'I think overall the season was a success,' Paterson said. 'The girls have gone further than any Coral Shores girls' team ever. They know they have arrived. For years, Gulliver has been the measuring stick, but this past season, I don't think they are the measuring stick anymore. We are even with them, even if they are beating us. None of the games produced more than one or two goals. Had the ball bounced in our favor, I think it could have been the other way around.
'I cannot say anything negative about the girls. They played hard, as tired as they were, and they still gave 110 percent effort. When I lose a game and I see the girls play like that, honestly, I dread the outcome, but I feel good because the girls did not quit. I am very, very proud of them.'
Paterson praised his three seniors for their leadership and work ethic but knows the future is bright for his squad.
'Jen Jenkins, Megan Gunther and Julia Hatfield made my job a lot easier,' Paterson said. 'With the freshmen and sophomores we have returning I think we have a bright future.'
Coral Shores was the last Keys prep soccer team still playing."

Lady Conchs' season comes to emotional end

It just wasn't meant to be -
The Key West Lady Conchs appeared to be moving into the regional 16-4A Finals but McCarthy High School team had their own vision of the future.

It was a sad ending for the Conchs Senior Varsity players as their hopes and goals were set high and believed they would make it to the regional finals.

But in all what they have brought to the team over the past season will continue and the players as well as spectator are now waiting for the semi-final jinx to end.
