Here's finally an article about the obvious lack of playing fields in Key West for team sports.
How un-cooperative School Board Members and City Officials are in their quest to solve this problem. Read this article... it's worth it.

This is one game I had to miss - One article mentioned the game starts at 4pm the other said 5pm.
I took the chance @ 4 - no activity; tried again shortly after 5, the ticket booth was set up yet nobody around on the field.
That indicated another delay so I've decided to return home after picking up the medicine at Walgreens my wife was waiting for.
I really wanted to watch the game, as Marathon, as young as their team is, there's always something "vibrant" in the air during the game vs. the County rival.
In the end the Kicking Conchs prevailed with a 6:1 victory.

Having to work on the Laptop the last several days did not make life any easier, though by the weekend my workstation should be up and running again. I just hate that "BLUE" screen on the monitor.

EUROPEAN CUP WOMEN:
GERMANY vs. ENGLAND Final on Thursday!
Not quite sure how many actually follow the Women's European Cup, but I certainly enjoy it.
This match appears to have more signifance than the World Cup Qualifiers of the Men's teams the day before, as many of the teams expected to go through will make it in my humble opinion.
Although only Holland, or Netherland if you prefer, have clinched their spot for next years World Cup in South Africa.
Back to the Women's Final on Thursday.
Can Germany take the Crown again against an excellent English team?

See you at Shanna Key!!

Miami's Soccer Locker team to visit Key West!
AC Key West's Boca Seniors team is hosting their annual friendly vs. the Soccer Locker of Miami on Saturday, July 25.
These games were revived in May of last year after most of the players had just about enough of soccer on our Island. A celebration though of one of the Founding Fathers' birthday brought the oldtimers back together and they soon realized how much more fun it is to be playing again instead of just watching the Premier League or the Bundesliga on TV.
Kick-Off will be at 6 p.m. at the H.O.B. Soccer Field. Both teams will be gathering to a banquet as this tradition from the early days of the "friendly Rivalry" was kept up through Michael Andersen, team captain and sponsor of the Key West Club.
The public is invited to join the 2 teams, NO Admission.
To attend the Banquet an invite is required and a $20.- cover charge is necessary to cover the cost of the event. Hope to see you at the field. A meeting will be held at SHANNA KEY on Wednesday, July 22, at 8 p.m. after the weekly scrimmage game.
More info will be available at this link!

It's not often our Coed softball league is mentioned in the KeyNoter, so the more I'm happy to introduce you to Dick Wagner's very likeable column.
I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did.
P.s.: I'll be back again more often, it was a hectic past week.

Key West runs into roadblock in return to home
During our weekly Saturdays Scrimmage Soccer Games I had the pleasure of talking to Michael Behmke about his daughter's Tennis match that morning at the Key West High School.
The Key West Citizen had an extensive report on the matches in Sunday's Edition and you can still catch up with the report by clicking on the link above.

Conchs Keep Sliding |
Conchs Keep Sliding KeysNews.com
Signs of things to come?
Starting 0 and 2 in the district does not favor the High School Conch's Baseball team too well. Of course, it just started and the Conchs "always" make it to the district play-offs; but will it become a tougher goal to reach this season?
I will talk to Miguel Menendez over the weekend and get a closer inside look into his squad and how he feels about his team now and his realistic goals for the entire season.
So stay tuned for more on the subject!
