The past 2 season I wondered how long the KW High School will keep their Volleyball team, or rather how many girls will sign up for the program, but it soon proved to be an irrelevant question as the girls do love their sport and that winning isn't everything.
Now the young team under Coach Jessy Hulme are on their way to become a competetive team and their first big test will come on Thursday against Mater Academy.

By now you must have noticed the long overdue reformatting of the KeyNoter and if you're just a bit like me, you must have welcomed that move as well.

Go ahead and read it, it's Conch Baseball!
Hopes were high, confidence was beyond comprehension, and Dick Wagner wrote an excellent little piece in Saturdays KEYNOTER about how the team felt after that disappointing night.

Keys soccer players receive all-state honors
Keys soccer players receive all-state honors
As you might know SOCCER is my favorite pastime activity - playing, coaching and refereeing soccer here in Key West for the past 30 years - it is great to see how soccer has grown up and down the Florida Keys since the early days of our existence.
Click on the "Headline" above and read about the Coral Shores HS girls and their accomplishment in Saturday's KeyNoter.
More to come about Jasmine Patersen, a freshman out of Coral Shores who will join the U-15 national team in April.
I certainly wish her all the best and am looking forward to see her play here against the Lady Conchs next season.

During our weekly Saturdays Scrimmage Soccer Games I had the pleasure of talking to Michael Behmke about his daughter's Tennis match that morning at the Key West High School.
The Key West Citizen had an extensive report on the matches in Sunday's Edition and you can still catch up with the report by clicking on the link above.

Conchs Keep Sliding |
Conchs Keep Sliding KeysNews.com
Signs of things to come?
Starting 0 and 2 in the district does not favor the High School Conch's Baseball team too well. Of course, it just started and the Conchs "always" make it to the district play-offs; but will it become a tougher goal to reach this season?
I will talk to Miguel Menendez over the weekend and get a closer inside look into his squad and how he feels about his team now and his realistic goals for the entire season.
So stay tuned for more on the subject!

High School Sports
One of the obvious reasons I started to get more involved with "Spreading the News" about local sports has always been the lack of our local Newspaper giving you either the right information or only partially.
How often have I missed an eventbecause there are just no reminders or timely articles in the Citizen and you're just being left stranded in nowhere land or of course, you are completely into the events and find out through word of mouth.
Why do we have a Newspaper in town anyway? Long gone are the days when the Key West Citizen was something to look forward to and nowadays the articles published in the paper are snippets from the wire services, cut up and completely out of synch, and local sports - well, there's a half-hearted event. If it weren't for Ron Cook, nothing would happen.
Today the High School Soccer team is playing Miami Springs.... and that's all about the information available to the broader public.
I am expecting a message soon from the Athletic Director to shed some light on the Mystery!
